Barbera Monferrato superiore docg

General Description

As from the 2008 vintage, Barbera del Monferrato Superiore has obtained the denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin (docg).
Barbera del Monferrato Superiore draws structure and deep colour from the lime-rich soil of the hills on which its grapes are grown. It represents the desire of the producers which are located especially in the area between Vignale and Casale Monferrato to offer an important wine which highlights the qualities of the territory and satisfies even the most demanding palates. The Superiore version is obtained from the ripest grapes and is left to age for at least 1 year, of which at least 6 months in oak casks.
In recent vintages, some producers obtained important awards for their Barbera del Monferrato Superiore, in Italy and abroad, thus confirming the top quality of this wine from the Monferrato area.

Organoleptic characteristics

The colour is ruby red, achieving garnet hues as it ages. The intense perfume, which is vinous when young, has outstanding notes of red berries, cherries, light spices and sometimes floral touches, acquiring complexity if matured in oak casks and developing scents of cocoa and vanilla. Its flavour is pleasantly harmonious and long lingering.

The Superiore version goes well with haute cuisine, main courses featuring meat, game and mature cheeses.
